NSF Scholarship Program General Information
S-STEM
The University of Alabama Computer Science (CS) and Management
Information Systems (MIS) programs are pleased to announce the offering of
several new National Science Foundation-funded scholarships. The typical
scholarship award will be $3,000 per semester. With continued full-time
academic progress, they are renewable through graduation.
For CS majors to qualify, you must:

Be a current student at The University of Alabama, majoring in CS.

Have completed the first 2 CS programming courses.

Be enrolled as a full-time student.

Have completed a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which demonstrates financial
need as determined by the University of Alabama Financial Aid Office.
All qualified students are invited to apply. In keeping
with the goals of the funding award, preference will be given to students who:

Have significant financial need

Show academic promise
-
Are first generation college students (whose parents have not received a
degree from a 4-year institution)

Are from an economically depressed county in Alabama

Are part of a group under-represented in the disciplines of CS (women and
ethnic minorities)
To continue funding, scholarship awardees are expected
to actively participate in professional development activities including:

Attending monthly STEM meeting
-
Mentoring of other STEM participants
- Resume review and the MIS
resume book
- CS Mentoring
- Open Houses
- Program outreach and
recruiting activities
This project is funded by the National Science Foundation under the Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarship (CSEMS) program.
