Overview:

Multiple PhD scholarships in the Computer Science Department at The University of Alabama are available for current or incoming students starting in Spring 2026 (January 2026). The student will be supervised by Dr. Mahmoud Mahmoud.

Required qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • GPA: (3.5/4.0 or higher) – Strictly enforced by the department.
  • Strong interest or prior experience in Adversarial Machine Learning and/or Explainable AI.
  • For international students, TOEFL ≥ 79 or IELTS ≥ 6.5.
  • GRE is NOT required!

Preferred qualifications:

Relevant expertise or at least one peer-reviewed relevant publication.
